Does Mr. Clean recommend painting decks
Painting your rail system or any vertical surface is just fine and will last 7 to 10 years. However, if you paint the flat surface on an outdoor deck, it can fail within months. It will peel and flake off in some spots.
The biggest problem is some areas won't stay on the deck and other areas won't come off. What we mean by that is power washing will not remove the paint that is not peeling off. So the home owner is left with a portion of paint off and a portion of paint on. This can be very unsightly and messy. We do not recommend painting entire decks.
What's the next step if your deck is already painted?
Mr. Clean Powerwash suggests two options:
• Powerwash and re-paint
• Sand the paint off the flat surfaces and seal with TWP
Power Wash and Paint the Entire Deck One Color Including Rails
All decks up to 400 sq. ft. Additional sq. ft. is $1.50 per sq. ft. Paint is to be purchased by the customer.
Please call the office for custom prices on two-tone decks or paint rails only.
-Elevation Fees are additional where applicable
Choosing Paint and Application
You can have us apply any paint. However, we can offer our customers a discount at Pittsburgh Paint. SunProof Solid Color Deck Stain is a product that we use often. Our customers have given us good feedback on the product. Mr. Clean Powerwash does not choose colors. If you choose to use this paint, our power washer will leave a color choice brochure at your home and will let you know how much paint to order. We ask that you pick a color, call the store closest to our office (number will be on the brochure), order the paint and pay for it over the phone with your credit card. Mr. Clean will pick up the paint and bring it to your job site.
Power washing and painting will take two days. These are not two consecutive days. Cleaning will be done on one day. Power washing will remove mildew, mold and surface grime. A paint truck will be back on a different day when the deck is dry. The timing depends on Michigan weather. We can normally get our work done within two weeks. However, our weather sometimes takes control of that. But rest assured, we do not get paid until all our work it done.
Repaint Or Replace The Rails
Repainting rails is less expensive than replacing them. Please pick a color that would cover in just one coat. Putting a light color over a dark color will require twice as much paint for your to purchase and twice the labor. If you keep a similar hue, the process can be completed in one coat and save you money.
Please call the office for prices on custom painted rails. Go to Choosing Paint and Application.
Purchasing a new rail system may be cost effective. Rails can be purchased for as little as $20 per 4 linear sq. ft. Please call the office for labor price on removal of the old system and installing the new.
Paint is applied with professional airless sprayers. This assures an even coat and eliminated brush marks. i
